From catching lizards as a kid to hunting Caribou in Alaska, my soul has always craved the thrill of the outdoors. This isn't just about fishing and backpacking; it's about forging memories, igniting passions, and pushing beyond limits. And I know I'm not alone.
I didn’t grow up in the country and didn’t have parents who were outdoor, expedition-grade adventurers. I grew up in the suburbs and was raised by parents who taught me to enjoy new experiences and did their best to get me outdoors. By the time I got to high school, I was addicted to fishing thanks to my dad. He introduced to me fishing when I was little and it became all I wanted to do.
When I arrived at Oregon State for my freshman year in college, a whole new world opened up. Oregon was a playground for someone like me. The fish were bigger, rivers were everywhere, and I wasn’t trapped by all the rules that California places on everything. My outdoor world got a whole lot bigger…
College is where I also discovered my passion for hunting. I shared a house with a friend that had grown up on 25,000 acres of family-owned Oregon timberland. He was an avid hunter and I tagged along with him for deer season. Damn, I was addicted again. Since then, I’ve developed a passion and a love for hunting that rivals my fishing obsession.
After graduating from college and working for a timber company for a few years, I went back to school for an MBA from the University of Oregon. MBA in hand, I moved back to California in 2005 to be near family and settled down in Pleasanton with my high school sweetheart Tiffany (best woman ever). Fitness club development, high-tech startups, and semiconductors are all stuff I know now, but none of that fuels my passion for the outdoors.
Enter Eva (‘07) and Sienna (‘12), the two most beautiful little girls a man could ask for. My brother-in-law had a daughter around the same age as Eva, and took her backpacking when she was 6 years old. When he told me the story of their trip, I had to do the same. Eva and I did our first backpacking trip in 2013 and it was the start of a new addiction. With her pink Hello Kitty backpack and her little hand in mine, we set off into the wilderness. I take both my girls on trips every year and they are memories that I will never forget. The wilderness, the solitude, and the time spent connecting, it’s magical.
That brings me to today. I have a clear and hopeless addiction to the outdoors. It feeds my soul, my need for adventure, and has allowed me to experience things that most never get the chance to witness.
